Stanford University's alumni magazine profiles several of the athletes who will be competing in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. A sidebar in the print version of the magazine notes that Stanford athletes have won a total of 193 medals at the Olympics since 1908. In the '96 games in Atlanta, 17 Stanford athletes won gold medals. In the same games, the People's Republic of China won 16 gold medals altogether.
