Violent and racist e-mail jokes alluding to the assassination of President Barack Obama, the killing of Latinos and violence against black people were forwarded by Atwater City Councilman Gary Frago during the last six months, according to more than 200 new e-mails obtained by th …
Incredibly, this story also comes out of Texas. A disabled veteran who has 7 Marine Corps related bumper stickers/decals on the back of his car has been threatened with a fine and towing of his vehicle unless he removes/covers the stickers.
A group of middle-school students serving Saturday detention in downtown Dallas chased away an assailant who was beating a woman.
(UPDATED BELOW) This story absolutely infuriated me. A hospital worker whose daughter is currently serving in Iraq, and whose husband and son are both veterans, hung a flag in her office wall on Memorial Day.
After being forced into the car, the woman told police, she noticed the children referring to her attacker as "Daddy." The woman said she asked the man if he was going to do this with his kids in the car, and he ordered her to shut up and do as she was told.

Another gem from Stanley Fish. Here's the crux:
The release of an Iranian-American journalist imprisoned on charges of spying for the United States removes an obstacle to President Obama's opening to Iran but illustrates the volatility of the Iranian government.
This profile of Colbert is almost two years old, but I'm seeding it for the sake of those incredibly clueless people who are somehow able to twist Colbert's recent piece on the National Day of Prayer into an anti-Christian rant.
The film "Outrage," which opens today at the Embarcadero Center Cinema in San Francisco, presents interviews and documentation charging that a number of prominent legislators - including Dreier, the U.S. representative from San Dimas (Los Angeles County), Florida Gov.
Stephen Colbert beautifully illustrates the real level of spiritual insight behind the religious right critics of Barack Obama. Because prayer is all about drawing attention to ourselves, right?
Is it just me, or is anybody else having a little trouble logging in to a Windows live mailbox? I get in this endless login loop where Microsoft thinks I don't HAVE a mailbox, but can sign up for one. Clearly a major bug.

After all, aren't we all more odd than we are normal? And aren't so many of us one bad experience away from a mental-health diagnosis that could potentially limit us? Aren't "normal" minds now struggling with questions of competence, consistency or sincerity? Icarus is likewise a …

I would like to say that the author of this article said exactly what I had going through my mind...I too was struck and delighted by President Obama's response to the reporter. It truly is a breath of fresh air to have someone who doesn't just spout comments off of the top of his head, just to have something to say in an effort to appease the masses. The fact that he chooses to examine the issues and make an informed response speaks volumes. Not to pick on any particular past presidents...(Bush...) who simply tried to sound like they were well informed at all times....
I also would like to say that this isn't the first time that I have noticed President Obama withholding comments on subjects that the press have fired at him. Kudos to Barrack Obama. America's voice may actually be heard with this president.

Why wasn't their and article on how he helped build habitat homes for the low income in Lexington Ky. in 1991? He was so sweet to give his time and self to this project when seven homes were built in seven days. I love his movies, but when he gave his time and labor for the families that got these homes. Made me respect him even more. I wish I could have thanked him personally. He deserved and award for his kindness and love of people, he never looked down his nose at the poor and illness of the people, he was there to help if he could. That is what I admire most about him.
